Energy and transport integration

The energy industry is going through major transformational change driven by the need to decarbonise and enable the UK to hit its targets under the Climate Change Act 2008. Whilst the initial focus on meeting carbon budgets has been through the decarbonisation of power resulting in the closure of coal stations and decentralisation of generation through the deployment of renewables; these actions in themselves will not achieve the targets.

Decarbonisation progress slowing, Ofgem report shows

Greenhouse gas emissions have fallen by 42% since 1990, more than any other large advanced economy, due largely to the decarbonisation of electricity generation. This has been driven by Government policies, such as the carbon price which penalises coal plants in particular, and the huge growth in wind and solar power. In fact, renewables generated a record 33% of our electricity last year.
