Leadsom gets top job at BEIS

Leadsom succeeds Greg Clark, who had held the position for three years, but was relieved of his duties by new Prime Minister Boris Johnson earlier this evening.

She said: “It’s a great honour to be appointed as Secretary of State for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, supporting UK businesses as we make our way in the world once we’ve left the European Union, and of course tackling the vital issue of global climate change. I really look forward to getting stuck into the work.”

Leadsom is MP for South Northamptonshire.

Claire Perry, currently on leave from her post as minister of state for energy, has accepted the new prime minister’s offer to become COP26 president.

Jo Johnson (MP for Orpington) and Kwasi Kwarteng (MP for Spelthorne) have both been appointed Ministers of State at BEIS. Johnson is the Prime Minister’s younger brother.
