WPD spending £9m to boost Coalville power network

The company is responding to a growing demand for electricity from new developments in the area and say the project will also boost the long term reliability of the electricity network for 20,000 existing customers.

The scheme will see new cables installed along a route that runs from Ellistown Lane at Stanton under Bardon to substations at Market Street, Coalville, and John Cooper Way, Bardon.

Des Gelly, WPD engineering specialist, said: “We have been in consultation for several months to identify the best route to minimise disruption to transport, businesses, local residents and public services in and around Coalville and Bardon.

“This work is essential to meet the demands from new customers in the area and to ensure we continue to provide a high level of service in the future by improving the infrastructure and security of our electricity network.”

Work will begin on 1 August 2019. The final stage is expected to be completed by the end of January 2020.
