Contracts were awarded to 12 participants across seven Constraint Management Zones (CMZs). Bids came from a variety of technologies including generators, energy storage and demand turn down.
All the awarded zones have flexibility requirements in 2019/20 and ongoing requirements forecast out to 2023/24.
WPD’s network strategy manager Ben Godfrey said: “This is the third flexibility tender that WPD has put out to the market since it first began to trial flexibility in 2016, and we’ve continued to see an increase in response through this latest round.
“It’s also encouraging to see the variety of technologies coming forward: we’re pleased to be working with more energy storage and domestic flexibility than we’ve seen before.”
To date Flexible Power has contracted 59MW of demand response across a total of 15 CMZs. A fourth round of procurement is planned for August 2019. WPD will announce CMZ Locations and details of how to participate on 1 July.
