SSEN’s teams will start work later this month to replace 6km of overhead power line between Beauly and Kiltarlity, including a 1.6km section of underground cable, replace 10km of overhead line between Kiltarlity and Erchless, and refurbish a further 10km of power line with new, upgraded electrical equipment.
The works, which are expected to complete in September 2019, will also include the installation of innovative automation equipment that will enable quicker restoration times in the event of a power cut.
Colin Pirie, head of region for the Highlands and Islands at SSEN, said:”Our ongoing programme of investment is designed to ensure our equipment is in the best possible condition so we can deliver on our commitment to provide a safe, secure and reliable supply of electricity to homes and businesses across the Highlands and Islands.
“This £1.1m investment in Beauly, Kiltarlity and Erchless will upgrade and strengthen the resilience of the electricity network to keep our communities connected, and the installation of automated equipment will enable us to remotely control our equipment and restore power to our customers much quicker in the event of a power cut.”
