Latest phase of £3m Stalybridge power upgrade starts

In total 7.4km of underground cable will be replaced with new environmentally friendly electricity cables.

John Pietsch, transmission south manager for Electricity North West, said: “We’re delighted to start the next phase of this essential project which will help ensure thousands of customers in Stalybridge and the surrounding areas have the power they need for years to come.

“These cables have been in place since 1960 and they have served the area well but it’s now time for our engineers to ensure that continues by upgrading these aging cables which run alongside the Huddersfield Narrow Canal and River Tame.”
