City of London to get power boost

The company is currently installing modern technology so that a range of businesses and properties in Fenchurch Street, Monument, Farringdon and Bank will benefit.

The switchboard equipment being replaced inside a substation in the Farringdon area supplies a number of large buildings, and includes a facility to reroute power supplies from other nearby cables as an extra measure of resilience.

Leandros Andrikopoulos, project manager at UK Power Networks, said: “This area is home to some of the capital’s most iconic buildings and ensuring the lights are kept on for all is vital. That’s why we are making a significant investment into this project.

“UK Power Networks is working in partnership with our alliance of contractors to support the substantial increase that will be required in capacity to distribute power across this busy area.”
