£3.2m power upgrade in West Byfleet
UK Power Networks is carrying out a £3.2 million upgrade to the electricity network in West Byfleet.

The project has included the installation of new electrical equipment, including construction of a switch house at an existing substation in Addlestone, and new cabling to connect the new infrastructure to the existing network.
Mukesh Chaudhari, project manager at UK Power Networks, said: “This investment is maintaining network resilience for thousands of customers across a wide area. We have linked together two existing substations in Addlestone and West Byfleet, to further increase network reliability and make it possible to flexibly transfer capacity to where it is needed.
“This project is one of the multi-million pound schemes being carried out this year by UK Power Networks across the South East, London and East of England to ensure we continue to provide reliable power supplies for the local communities we serve.”
A new interconnection between the two electricity substations in Addlestone and West Byfleet is now in place via an existing overhead power line and underground cabling. The new switchboard has been installed in Addlestone and engineers are in the process of transferring supplies from the existing switchboard to the new one. The final stages of the work are due to be completed by August.

Protect electrical equipment from insulation failure
Insulation faults are a major cause leading to the eventual failure of electrical equipment. Partial discharge (PD) is a very reliable indicator of developing insulation faults. Regular PD testing allows users to detect and analyze PD activity
