23% rise in apprenticeship applications for WPD

WPD’s campaign used a number of social media platforms like Twitter, Facebook and YouTube to raise the profile of its apprentice recruitment scheme.

Videos were created, case studies highlighted and live Q&A sessions held on Twitter, where potential applicants could ask questions of WPD’s Employee Relations team and current apprentices.

“Through solid planning, messaging and effective campaign timing across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube, we increased our apprenticeship applications by 23 percent compared to last year. We intend to use the knowledge gained to develop our next apprenticeship recruitment campaign which starts in December,” said Bev Collings, Employee Relations Manager.

The recruitment campaign, which resulted in 1,676 applications, also recently won the business a Chartered Institute of Public Relations gold award for best corporate and business communication.

In the last year, WPD has seen a growth of 250 percent in Facebook followers and 50 percent in Twitter followers – having one of the largest Twitter sites amongst the UK’s distribution network operators. Over 15,000 customers follow WPD’s newsfeed.
